CAMSC Aboriginal & Minority
Supplier Procurement Fair 2007
Symbiotic Group participated in the recent CAMSC Aboriginal &
Minority Supplier Procurement Fair on April 11th 2007 at the
Fairmont Royal York in Toronto. There were hundreds in attendance
including many influential people including the keynote speaker,
the Rt. Honourable Paul Martin who gave an impactful speech on the
value of diversity to the future Canadian economy.
Symbiotic Group’s Specialized Aboriginal Recruitment Program which
is designed to bridge the gap between Aboriginal people and
corporate Canada was right on target with the theme of the
procurement fair. In the speech by the Rt. Honorable Paul Martin
at the CAMSC luncheon he stated, “…it is a matter of only a couple
of decades before 100% of all the new labour force growth in
Canada will be the result of immigration or the increase in our
aboriginal population. In fact Stats Canada has pinpointed the
year this will occur- it’s 2030”.
Clearly, access to a growing and strategic labour pool is a
compelling reason to consider diversity in the workplace.
Aboriginal people are the fastest growing population segment in
Canada with over 1.3 million; half of whom are under the age of 25
and live in urban areas. Considering an Aboriginal component to
your diversity objectives is not only good for Canada, it is also
strategic to your firm’s future competitiveness.
Some of the corporations in attendance were 3M, Alcatel, *Cisco
Systems, Coca-Cola Bottling Company, Corporate Express,
DaimlerChrysler, EDS Canada, Enterprise Rent a Car,
Hewlett-Packard, Johnson & Johnson, Johnson Controls, KSR
International, Office Depot, PepsiCo, Pfizer, RBC Financial Group,
State Farm Insurance, TD Canada Trust, Visteon, Wal-Mart,
Weyerhaeuser, and Xerox Canada.
